About Bwin

Online sportsbook, bwin, has been around – and growing in stature for many years and in that time has established a very decent reputation in the sportsbetting market. Originally, named betandwin, the brand is owned by GVC Holdings and was founded in 1997 in Vienna, Austria. It was in 2006 that betandwin launched the new bwin brand. From starting off small, the group expanded and offers not only sports betting but also poker and casino. It now has in excess of 20 million registered customers and operates in many countries around the world, including Italy, Mexico, Germany, France, Austria and the UK. This bookie has over 25 core markets. In our bwin review, we’ll be looking in-depth at all areas of the site to see what it offers and check out how it compares to other top UK betting sites

Market Offering

One of the areas of bwin that really stands out is the total amount of sports and markets that are on offer at the online bookmaker. As this bookmaker has been around for around 20 years, you are always going to expect more than just footie or tennis – and you won’t be disappointed. There are over thirty different sport in total, including the most popular – football, tennis and boxing, as well as the less obvious and less well-known sports such as Bandy, Chess, Floorball and more.

The main sports that is focuses on are:

FootballTennisBasketballIce HockeyVolleyball
HandballBaseballFormula 1MotorbikesCycling
BoxingSnookerDartsGolfRugby Union

However, it offers many other sports and betting options such as:

American FootballAthleticsAussie RulesBadmintonBandy
Beach VolleyballBiathlonChessCombat SportsCricket
EntertainmentFloorballGaelic SportsPoliticsRugby League
Ski JumpingSpecialsSwimmingThe OlympicsWater Polo

Aside from sports, there are other options for betting, such as politics and entertainment. You can place your wagers on the Eurovision Song Contest; who will be the next Superman; US presidential elections and even bets on the next Pope and Car of the year in Europe.

In terms of the key sports, you can access hundreds – and even thousands of markets. Taking a look at football, you can bet on leagues from all over the world. There are the obvious European leagues such as the Premier League, FA Cup and La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A; however, there are also other lesser-known leagues such as Bulgarian Leagues, Egyptian Leagues, Japanese Leagues and more. Overall, there are markets on leagues for over 65 different countries.

Not only can you bet on the match-winner, but also there are other different betting options such as over/under; scorecast bets; winscore bets; goal scorers; cards and more. The only areas we are really missing are horseracing and greyhounds, which are popular with the UK market. However, those aside, there are plenty of top options to bet on with bwin.

In-Play Betting

Bwin has a top live betting experience for its punters. There is a selection of all of the events that are available in the overview column. When you click on an event, you can see detailed information as well as all of the betting markets available. There is also an animation or even a live stream of certain events.

When using the bwin live betting, there are several different options. Firstly, the regular option gives you all the information about the most common markets on all the on-going and/or current events. Then there’s the Event View, which gives a more detailed overview of your event. Finally, there’s the Multi-View option. This lets you display two different matches on your screen. You will also be shown an animation of the animation of these matches to the right of your screen.

Odds

When comparing them to all other big online betting sites, the bwin odds are fairly standard. However, the best way to maximise the odds and get the best out of them is by betting early.  One aspect of the site that is beneficial to know is that their odds are particularly high earlier on, and get lower as the event gets closer. The site allows you to make bets early as such; in fact, if you are betting on The Masters, you can even bet as far as 3 months in advance to get higher odds.

Having said that, they might not be the best for all sports, but they do have great options available for keen football bettors. This is the main sport that they focus on, which is evident in the prices. They may be average in other sports, but bet early and bet on football and you can get good deals. In general, their margin is between 91% to 93%, which is decent, but not great.

Security and Regulations

Bwin is a brand that has made it big throughout Europe and has managed to get a very good following. It is part of the Electraworks Limited company and is licensed by the Government of Gibraltar and regulated by the Gibraltar Gambling Commission. Furthermore, it is also licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. As such, it is completely legal and regulated for all of its UK customers.

As well as this, it offers up one of the very best security systems available in the industry, including 128-bit SSL encryption from Tech Labs, as well as many firewalls as protection. It also reviews its security protocols regularly to make sure all of its users are totally safe. Therefore, the customers are legally protected and also their data – financial and personal are being well looked after.

Furthermore, bwin sportsbook has worked together with the European Gaming and Betting Association and come up with the European Sports Security Association (ESSA). This aims to stop insider betting and fraudulent betting – and offer a safe and fair betting environment. To do this, ESSA has a huge database, which lets ESSA recognise probable manipulation in sporting events. They then pass this information to the authorities.

Furthermore, the site makes sure all its KYC procedures are in place. It makes you provide details and evidence to prove that you are of the legal age to bet, preventing underage gambling. Bwin also has a dedicated page to responsible gambling to help you if you are suffering from problem gambling. The site is linked to bodies such as EGBA, eCOGRA, GamCare, iTechLabs and GamStop. As such, it is fair to say that bwin is a safe and secure site.

Customer Service

Fortunately, the bwin customer service is very good in our experience. Firstly, in the case of general queries, there is a help section. This section of the site answers any questions you might have without the need to contact the agents. However, despite the many questions, there are available, there will be times when you will need to contact the agents. The FAQ section is split into a number of different areas – by sports, casino, poker and games. This makes the FAQs easier to navigate. You can then look at questions addressed to each different betting area.

However, as stated, not all questions will be answered in the FAQ section, and as such, you might need to contact the customer service agents. The agents there are very good. There are a number of ways to contact them including live chat, phone and emails. If you do need help outside of normal hours, then the best way to contact them is via live chat – as this is the only service that is available 24 hours. However, it is a great method of contact as it is answered very quickly and the agents are very helpful.

If you would rather speak to someone, then you can use the phone number: 00350 200 77761. You can speak to a specialised sportsbook helpline, which means you’ll get assistance from a specialist advisor.  The phone agents are very quick, helpful and offer great service. Furthermore, although you can’t access the email address directly, you can send the agents a message via the website. This is not as quick, but it is great if you have a less urgent query you need to be answered.

User Experience

The bwin homepage looks good and stylish, with a black, yellow and white colour scheme. At the very top of the screen, you can see the ‘Help’, ‘Contact’, ‘Register Now’ and ‘Log In’. Beneath that there are the different areas of bwin to choose from Sports Betting, Live Betting, Virtuals, Casino, Live Casino, Jackpots and Poker.

Once in the sports betting section, you can choose from a top menu that includes: Football, Tennis, Basketball, Promotions, and Mobile. The main home page offers up all the most popular betting games for the next few days, as well as the live betting highlights.

Along the side of the screen, there are the highlights – Today’s Football; Premier League; La Liga; Enhanced Accas; Price Boosts as well as My Favourites, a list of the sports, bet services – Livescore, Statistics and Results. There is also a live calendar on the right-hand side, to make it easier. The search function also makes the site easy to navigate.

All in all, the site looked very attractive and was very easy to navigate. It was easy to find the different sports and events; the live betting was easy to use and you could access all areas of the site quickly and easily.

Mobile Experience

When checking out a site, we like to make sure that it has a great and well-functioning mobile app.

The design of the bwin mobile app is very similar to the desktop page and offers the same number of sports and events to bet on. An area that we were very impressed with was the mini tutorial on how to use some of the functions when we downloaded the app. This was a nice touch, which created an even better mobile experience.

The app is very smooth, functional and practical. When you first enter the app, you get straight to the live betting and current special promotions. To the top left, there’s an A-Z of sports to help you find your sport. Placing a bet on the mobile app is very easy – with your bet just four clicks away. Simply make sure you have a registered account, download the app, make a deposit and then the best is just a few clicks away.

There is a banner at the top that lets you customise your prioritised services – which helps if you like to focus on specific markets.

Overall, this is an impressive app, which allows you to access your favourites easy. It is easy to navigate, offers everything on mobile and is perfect for betting on the go. The app tutorial gives it that little something extra, making it one of the best mobile betting apps in the business.

Conclusion:
Overall, we were very impressed with the bwin betting site. The sports on offer were great, although we would like to see horseracing added at some point. In addition, the site is predominantly in decimals, which isn’t easy if you’re used to fractional odds. However, decimals are very easy to use once you know them. The usability of the site is great – and it looks very attractive as well. The live section was very functional and offered a great way to bet in play. The mobile site was also one of the best around. Also, the customer service was impressive – with 24-hour chat available. The promotions are great – as are the bonuses. Furthermore, the site is regulated, secure and safe.
