Boxing: Callum Johnson v Artur Beterbiev Tips, Odds and Predictions

Callum Johnson v Artur Beterbiev Odds and Predictions

In a battle of undefeated fighters, we see England’s Callum Johnson v Artur Beterbiev from Russia, fight for the International Boxing Federation World Light Heavyweight Title.

The fight takes place on October 6th at the Wintrust Arena, Chicago, USA.

Making up for lost time

In an exclusive interview with Ringnews24, Callum Johnson opened up on his life struggles which saw the death of his father and a lengthy absence away from the ring.

“After I won the Commonwealth title I had a bit of down time, I lost my dad. It sort of hit me and I had three or four months, I was down in the dumps and didn’t know what I was doing with my life.

“I then got back in the gym and was due to fight but I got an injury and another injury, so injuries have kept me out for the last 10 months,” added Johnson.

Johnson was out of the ring for 18 months and on his ring return he faced friend and British champion, Frank Buglioni.

The fight only lasted 91 seconds – Johnson caught Buglioni cold in the opening minute which saw lots of shots land before the champ hit the canvas after just 70 seconds. After the count, Buglioni looked shaky and it didn’t take long for Johnson to land again before referee Victor Loughlin jumped in to halt the proceedings.

The new British champion Johnson remained undefeated and moved to 17-0.

Head to Head

Artur Beterbiev’s record stands at an impressive 12 wins from 12 fights, with 12 KO’s. Beterbiev remains undefeated and no fighter has managed to see the final bell. In his last fight Beterbiev won the vacant International Boxing Federation World Light Heavyweight Title when he stopped Enrico Koelling in round 12.

Undefeated underdog, Callum Johnson, will go into the fight full of confidence after picking up the Lonsdale title in his last fight. His record currently stands at 17 fights, 17 wins with 12 coming by stoppage. Challengers such as Frank Buglioni, Willbeforce Shihepo and Norbert Szekeres have all failed to take that 0.

Both fighters are aged 33-years-old. Stats show that the power seems to lie with Beterbiev; he has 12 stoppages from 12 fights – a KO percentage of 100. Johnson has same amount of stoppages but has also had more fights, meaning a lower percentage of 71.  According to BoxRec, Beterbiev is the eighth best light-heavyweight in the world, with Johnson sitting at number 21.
