Aberdeen v Celtic
A Merry Christmas from all in our football betting department and we have lots to look forward to on Boxing Day as a full list of Scottish Premiership fixtures takes place on Wednesday 26 December. Looking at our Dec 26 Scottish Premiership betting tips, the first is Aberdeen v Celtic. There’s plenty of value to be had and we’re here to ensure you get it. This is, without doubt, game of the day north of the border as last season’s runners-up host the defending champions. These sides met in the final of the League Cup earlier this month and it was another toothless challenge by Aberdeen; they continued their tradition of losing to Celtic on the big stage without putting up too much of a fight.
Aberdeen were impressive last season but haven’t quite lived up to expectations so far this term; after 16 games played they were down in the bottom-six and looking like a team ready to give up their silver medal. Now Rangers and Kilmarnock are more likely to finish as best of the rest behind Celtic. They lost 2-0 at home to St Johnstone recently in what was a surprise result for fans who like to follow this level. In what was a typically tight match between the sides; The Saints had to wait until the 71st minute to get their noses in front, Shaughnessy scoring and Alston made it two less than three minutes later.
Bhoys Hoping for a Strong December
Celtic stormed back to the top of the league in December; however, they have struggled to find the consistency needed to see off their challengers so far. That’s why, at this stage of the campaign, the league still looks there to be won. The Bhoys dropped points against Motherwell on 5 December when playing out a 1-1 draw at Fir Park. Christie continued his scoring form when bulging the net on 13 minutes; however, that advantage was cancelled out by Johnson who struck a wonder goal in the dying minutes of the contest.
Since that away day draw Celtic have hammered Kilmarnock 5-1 in Glasgow, making a mockery of what was expected to be a hard-fought match; they then lost at Parkhead when hosting Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League. Despite that defeat, they were able to sneak through Group B thanks to results elsewhere and will be playing European knockout football in the new year. Another fine achievement by the club. The luck of the draw will determine just how far they go.
This is expected to be another close match and it’s worth knowing that both teams scored in three of Celtic’s first four games in all competitions this month. Aberdeen were also involved in a five-goal thriller with Livingston at this venue when beating The Lions 3-2. Fans will be hoping for a better showing from the defence when matched with a rampant Celtic attack.
The stats suggest this game will give us a couple of goals and we’re going to back both teams to score at odds of xx at xx in our betting tips. Those after an interest at a bigger price can try their luck on Celtic win and both teams to score with odds of xx at xx. That’s our second best and we’ll have a play at low stakes and hope the game goes the way we expect it to. We’ll need both managers to be ambitious enough to attack.
Rangers v Hibs
The other of our Dec 26 Scottish Premiership betting tips is Rangers v Hibs. It’s always interesting when Neil Lennon comes to Ibrox; fans haven’t forgotten his time as Celtic player and manager, or that famous touchline rammy with Ally McCoist at the conclusion of an Old Firm derby. He’s not with Celtic now, of course, and his Hibs side are struggling for form. Rangers will look to take full advantage; however, they have been far from impressive themselves, dropping points to Aberdeen and Dundee, despite both teams finishing with 10 men. The Dons left Ibrox with a 1-0 win before Dundee held on for a draw at Dens Park after putting in a brave effort.
Rangers fans also saw their European adventure come to an end when being knocked out of the Europa League at the group stage. The Gers needed a win on the road in game six but missed a host of opportunities to get in front and apply pressure to their hosts, before being floored by a hard-hitting counter. In the end the team only had themselves to blame and will look back at one point from two games against a poor Moscow for the reason for their early exit. Steven Gerrard can now concentrate fully on the league and he has promised reinforcements in January. This will be close but we’re having Rangers to edge the points and get fans back on side. Best odds for this are 8/15 at Ladbrokes.
Hibs Will Raise Their Game
Hibs have been far from at their best so far this season; however, they will raise their game at Ibrox as they so often do and that will make this one a very interesting match indeed. For those who get themselves along to the stadium for kick-off they are guaranteed a fiery encounter with any Christmas cheer put to one side for 90 minutes. The Edinburgh club will know Rangers’ weaknesses and will think themselves good enough to take advantage and get back to the capital with all three points. Lennon would certainly love an away win.
Hibs started the campaign pushing for the major places; however, a woeful autumn and winter has dragged them down the pecking order. They stood with just six wins from their first 16 contests, leaving them in the bottom-six. Still too early to panic as the European places remain within touching distance. Hibs recorded an overdue win when beating lowly Hamilton at New Douglas Park, Shaw scoring the only goal of the game on 65 minutes to settle-up. These sides met four times last season with no less than 21 goals scored, including a 5-5 draw at Easter Road in May. Both teams to score, with odds of 11/12 at Unibet, looks a bet worth having and it will pull its weight in your accumulators.
