We have much to look forward to this weekend on the greyhound racing front with meetings of note taking place across the UK and Ireland. You can have your say on any of the BAGS or BEGS races scheduled or look ahead and have your say in the antepost markets. The latter comes with more of a risk attached but it gives punters the chance to get in early and secure a better price on their fancies. Here are our top June 15 Greyhound Racing betting tips.
The standout of the weekend’s action takes place on Saturday where we see the quarter finals of the Greyhound Derby run to a conclusion at Nottingham Stadium. One of the most prestigious events on the sport’s calendar, the Greyhound Derby has a history that can be traced all the way back to 1927.
Another Big Priced Champion
Last year’s title was won by Dorotas Wildcat for Towcester trainer Kevin Hutton, landing backers a 2/1 prize in the process. That followed success for Astute Missile in 2017, Seamus Cahill’s star scoring off a jaw-dropping 28/1 price. The latter will live long in the memory, especially with those who had it backed. Will we see anything near a big priced winner this year? It remains a possibility with the current market ranging from a 4/1 favourite to a 250/1 outsider.
The current outright betting for the Greyhound Derby has defending champion Dorotas Wildcat as favourite for two-in-a-row and backers happy to follow the thinking of traders will have to make do with the 4/1 being offered up by Bet365 at the time of writing. If that’s a bet that catches your eye, we’d advise treading carefully as many firms offer 7/2 on the same runner and it would be foolish to take less of a price in such a competitive contest.
The jolly has Clonbrien Prince as the main danger and that has a 6/1 price tag attached by Ladbrokes, making it second favourite. We then find Magical Bale third in line at 7/1 – best price at Ladbrokes – before getting into the bigger quotes. Droops Verve 9/1 (Unibet), Skywalker Logan 10/1 (Bet365), Queen Beyonce 10/1 (Bet365), Jaytee Taylor 14/1 (Ladbrokes) and Droopys Expert 20/1 (Ladbrokes) are all competitors thought to have a decent chance of landing the prize but will require a generous slice of luck to do so. At the time of writing we see plenty of value in having Jaytee Taylor each-way at 14/1 with place terms of 1/4 the odds 1-2-3-4.
Quarter Final 1
The first quarter final race of the night sees bookmakers come down in support of Droopys Verve who is even money favourite with Bet365 to get the job done and progress to the semis as winner. The fav will get nothing on a plate in a race littered with danger but it’s easy to see where the money men are coming from with their call and the jolly will certainly take all the beating on the night.
We’ll get an idea of just how serious Droopys Verve is of winning this race by the performance on Saturday and we’re looking forward to seeing if the well-fancied runner can live up to expectations and deliver a performance. We’re happy enough to have it in our weekend accumulators and although the evens is tight enough, it’s a deserved price. The danger is expected to come from Priceless Blake at 5/1 with Ladbrokes but if you’re after one at a price we’d suggest taking a stab at Roxholme Jim, another 5/1 play at Ladbrokes.
Quarter Final 2
This is a well-matched race and there’s every chance the winner of the Greyhound Derby outright could come out of this very contest. Another the bookies believe they have the winner picked already with traders falling over themselves to side with Magical Blake who has been scratched up as a 11/10 play with Bet365. That’s too tight for our liking and we’ll have a shot at a better price.
We don’t allow our eyes to drift too far down the pecking order, however, and have our stake money down on second favourite Droops Verve. Well respected in the outright betting, this runner is more than good enough to win this contest. If it does, backers will see the antepost odds slashed. Worth a bet at interest stakes.
Quarter Final 3
This looks a more open race than the two that will go before it and that’s reflected in the betting with plenty of value around. Traders don’t know quite what to go with here and, after much deliberation, have taken Clonbrien Prince as an 11/10 fav with William Hill. In with a great shout, but not a bet for us at the odds offered.
Instead, we’re having our stake money down on the chances of Queen Beyonce who can be backed at 6/4. That’s market best when betting with Bet365 but be careful who you get on with if following our tip as many major firms offer only 5/4 on the same dog. That shows the respect it has on the trading floors. Backing a 5/4 runner at 6/4 is a good way to net a profit.
Quarter Final 4
The last quarter final race of the night and the major finishers of leg four will complete the field for the upcoming semis. There will be glory on the night with plenty of heartbreak for the losers and it promises to make for great viewing. If you can’t get yourself along to Nottingham Greyhound Track you can follow the action live on RPGTV or your mobile betting app.
Antepost favourite Dorotas Wildcat stands at the head of the pile as an 8/11 jolly with Bet365 – 8/13 in places – but there’s more to this contest than meets the eye. Anything can happen and although we fully expect to see Wildcat progress, we’ll take an each-way bet on Jaytee Taylor at 5/1 with William Hill to help keep things interesting.
