Personal Battles

The rematch was confirmed on 27th December and will take place on Saturday 22nd February at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. The spectacle will be preceded but plenty of pre card fights, but the big fight isn’t scheduled to start until 4am UK time on 23rd February. Better set those alarms, or be prepared for an all-nighter. Last time, the judges couldn’t split the pair and it resulted in a controversial split draw. The judges scored the match 115-111 to Wilder, 114-112 to Fury and 113-133.

Fury became world champion when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 at the Esprit Arena, Düsseldorf. The fighter upset the boxing world when he outboxed the long-time reigning Ukrainian champ.

After the fight, Fury took a lengthy break and wasn’t seen in the ring until June 2018 when he fought and defeated Sefer Seferi; two months later he defeated Francesco Pianeta.  He followed this up with his first fight against Deontay Wilder, which ended in a controversial draw. Fury has had to own battles after his lengthy absence. However, his return to the ring has been admirable

“It was like having a fight in my own mind.”

“[Mental illness] is a silent killer. It is almost like carbon monoxide poisoning because you can’t see it. My calling card is to spread the word on mental health.”

With his personal battle won, he stormed back to victory. He returned to action after the Wilder fight on 15th June 2019 with a win by TKO against Tom Schwarz. Then, on September 14, he beat Otto Wallin by unanimous decision. Speaking of the rematch, he said “There’s no more ducking and diving for me… The bomb squad is about to be securely detonated”. His record now reads 29 wins – 0 losses – 1 draw.

The Baddest Man on the Planet

Deontay Wilder is the WBC champion; in an old Box Nation TV interview, Wilder walked down a street in America and talked to strangers but they didn’t know who he was or that he was the WBC world champion.

In a post-match interview before the first Fury fight, Wilder said he was determined to show America who he is this time around. They certainly know now.

Memorably he said, “This is the moment in time for America to wake up and understand they have the baddest man on the planet right here.”

“And you think I’m going to let this Gypsy come in here and mess up all those plans for me? I don’t think so.” However, he had to share the win – and the title of the “baddest man on the planet” with Fury – and he wants to claim it back as his own. Since his draw with Fury, he has been undefeated. On 18th May he beat Dominic Breazeale by KO and followed this up by knocking out Oriz in November. Of this rematch, he said, “I want to give the fans what they want to see.”. His record reads 42 wins – 1 draw – 0 losses.

With both men undefeated and both men being world champions at one time or another, it makes for another cracking night of boxing and one you should not miss.

Power vs Game Plan

Deontay Wilder is a big puncher who is a bit unorthodox with his boxing style; he can explode and any moment with his gung-ho style. He may choose to be a little more cautious in the early rounds against Fury as he looks to work his opponent out before unleashing his explosive power.

Tyson Fury wasn’t given that much credit before he upset Klitschko – he was a massive underdog and many didn’t think he had what it takes to become a world-class fighter. His build has always been commented on, as he doesn’t possess the rippling muscles of many of his opponents, yet he still seems to pack a punch. He went into the Klitschko fight with a well-executed game plan, and a new style of fighting that we hadn’t previously seen. He then shocked the world by not being outboxed by Wilder.

Both fighters will be cautious here. Both are undefeated – and both will come into this fight knowing it’s difficult to split them on paper. Neither will want to lose this one. I see the early rounds being slow as both men work out how the other will play it; however, when the big punches land from Wilder, he really will come on strong. It will then be up to Fury to see if he can tie up Wilder or nullify those bombs that will come his way at some point in the fight.

In terms of styles and matchmaking, it really is interesting and the fight will divide fight fans predictions. Will it be another draw or will one of them blemish their unsullied record?

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder: Head to Head

Fury won his two fights back after the first Wilder bout. but Wilder will provide a tougher test. Fury is really up against it, but he has already proven he is more than capable of upsetting the odds and going head to head with Wilder.

Fury’s record stands at an impressive 29 wins from 30 fights, with 1 draw. He remains undefeated and challengers such as Wladimir Klitschko, Dereck Chisora, Steve Cunningham, Kevin Johnson, Martin Rogan and John McDermott have all failed to take that 0.

The fight will be shown live on BT Sport Box Office. We can watch as challenger Tyson Fury aims to finish the job in front of the whole world and claim victory.

Wilder’s record currently stands at 42 wins from 43 fights. Wilder will have to count on his fight experience and his power to overcome Fury.

Fury stands taller at 6’9 compared to Wilder who is 6’7. The power seems to lie with Wilder; he has a KO percentage of 95.35. Fury has fewer stoppages but has also had fewer fights, meaning a lower percentage of 66.7. Fury has a 2” reach advantage over Wilder according to BoxRec. Also, Fury is 3 years younger than Wilder who is 34-years-old.

Is it worth putting money of a Fury win?  At this stage, the odds aren’t favouring either side, but possibly it’s best to go with Wilder at this stage as they are slightly more favourable. However, a draw is another possibility and you can get great odds for this. A £50 bet on a draw at Ladbrokes would return £1,100 – A £500 bet at the same bookmaker would return £11,000.
