In an epic contest, we see two of the biggest names in boxing go head to head – with Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 2 as the long-awaited rematch takes place.  The first contest took place on December 1^st at the Staples Centre, Los Angeles as both men battled for the World Boxing Council World Heavyweight Title.

Personal Battles

The rematch was confirmed on 27th December and will take place on Saturday 22nd February at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. The spectacle will be preceded but plenty of pre card fights, but the big fight isn’t scheduled to start until 4am UK time on 23rd February. Better set those alarms, or be prepared for an all-nighter. Last time, the judges couldn’t split the pair and it resulted in a controversial split draw. The judges scored the match 115-111 to Wilder, 114-112 to Fury and 113-133.

Fury became world champion when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 at the Esprit Arena, Düsseldorf. The fighter upset the boxing world when he outboxed the long-time reigning Ukrainian champ.

After the fight, Fury took a lengthy break and wasn’t seen in the ring until June 2018 when he fought and defeated Sefer Seferi; two months later he defeated Francesco Pianeta.  He followed this up with his first fight against Deontay Wilder, which ended in a controversial draw. Fury has had to own battles after his lengthy absence. However, his return to the ring has been admirable

With his personal battle won, he stormed back to victory. He returned to action after the Wilder fight on 15th June 2019 with a win by TKO against Tom Schwarz. Then, on September 14, he beat Otto Wallin by unanimous decision. Speaking of the rematch, he said “There’s no more ducking and diving for me… The bomb squad is about to be securely detonated”. His record now reads 29 wins – 0 losses – 1 draw.

The Baddest Man on the Planet

Deontay Wilder is the WBC champion; in an old Box Nation TV interview, Wilder walked down a street in America and talked to strangers but they didn’t know who he was or that he was the WBC world champion.

In a post-match interview before the first Fury fight, Wilder said he was determined to show America who he is this time around. They certainly know now.

Memorably he said, “This is the moment in time for America to wake up and understand they have the baddest man on the planet right here.”

“And you think I’m going to let this Gypsy come in here and mess up all those plans for me? I don’t think so.” However, he had to share the win – and the title of the “baddest man on the planet” with Fury – and he wants to claim it back as his own. Since his draw with Fury, he has been undefeated. On 18th May he beat Dominic Breazeale by KO and followed this up by knocking out Oriz in November. Of this rematch, he said, “I want to give the fans what they want to see.”. His record reads 42 wins – 1 draw – 0 losses.

With both men undefeated and both men being world champions at one time or another, it makes for another cracking night of boxing and one you should not miss.

Power vs Game Plan

Deontay Wilder is a big puncher who is a bit unorthodox with his boxing style; he can explode and any moment with his gung-ho style. He may choose to be a little more cautious in the early rounds against Fury as he looks to work his opponent out before unleashing his explosive power.

Tyson Fury wasn’t given that much credit before he upset Klitschko – he was a massive underdog and many didn’t think he had what it takes to become a world-class fighter. His build has always been commented on, as he doesn’t possess the rippling muscles of many of his opponents, yet he still seems to pack a punch.
