April 13 League One Betting Tips & Predictions

Charlton v Luton

The first of our April 13 League One betting tips is for Charlton v Luton. It’s the second leg of a busy week form the third-tier of English football and game of the day goes in London where Charlton Athletic roll out the red carpet for champions in-waiting Luton on Saturday afternoon in a 3.00pm start that will attract a sizeable audience. The locals are on an unbeaten run that has lifted them into the promotion play-off places and their job is now to finish as high up the table as possible, giving them an easier route in the second phase. Despite winning four and drawing one of five going into the week, bookies offer the locals at 9/5 (Bet365).

Looking at the Championship

Luton refused to let their guard down in the latter stages of the season, despite enjoying a cushion over the chasing pack and they are now sprinting towards the finish line where they will pass fully deserving of the trophy and admiration that awaits. The Hatters will be playing Championship football next season and they go up with confidence on the back of what has been a stunning campaign. They don’t have to win this away day to make sure of that, but they’ve shown us nothing so far to suggest the leaders will take their eye off the ball and roll to a finish. We have to stick with the form and back an impressive Luton at 11/8 (Bet365).

Our Tip: Luton to win – 11/8 at Bet365

Barnsley v Fleetwood

Barnsley, like the one side placed above them in the League One table, have been ruthless in 2019 so far and look to be on their way to the Championship, barring a late collapse. They would’ve preferred to do that as champions, or at least make Luton work a bit harder for their prize but grabbing automatic promotion would help take the sting out of that. Barnsley have suffered a run of draws of late, however, and that has allowed Sunderland to apply pressure. We’re now set for a tense shoot-out. Barnsley must win their remaining home games and can be backed to do that here at 4/6 with 888sport.

Unbeaten in Three

Fleetwood started the week unbeaten in three, following two wins with a draw last time out but they have nothing to play for and appear to be picking up points from opponents in a similar position. A midtable finish looks to be on the cards with a place in the play-offs now too far off in the distance. Will they maintain their professionalism and keep winning in the final few weeks of the season? We think that’s unlikely and won’t snap at the 15/4 offered by Bet365 on an away win. The draw makes more appeal and will be difficult to ignore at 3/1, top price with Bet365. We certainly wouldn’t be in a rush to put anyone off if taking the draw was their aim here.

Our Tip: The draw – 3/1 at Bet365

Sunderland v Coventry

This is another game of note in a weekend fixture list that will ramp up the interest in League One as we near what will be a thrilling conclusion. Sunderland have battled their way back into contention for automatic promotion behind champions Luton and know it would be criminal if they were to let second place slip through their grasp at this stage of the season. The Black Cats won their third game on the spin last weekend to move level on points with Barnsley in second, with Portsmouth two behind in fourth. We’re excited to see how that one plays out. The home win is a bet for us at 4/5 with Ladbrokes. One for your accumulators.

A Wasted Season

Coventry fans will mark this season down as a wasted opportunity as they had the chance to force their way into the promotion play-off places, and were expected to do so, but came up short with a number of draws costing them in the end. The Sky Blues will wind down the clock to their summer holiday now with nothing left to play for and that will hand the advantage to their opponents. They drew their second game in-a-row last weekend and another share at 11/4 – top price with Bet365 – is thought to be more likely than the away win which is available at 7/2 with Unibet. We’ll stick to our initial thought and back the home win.

Our Tip: Sunderland to win – 4/5 at Ladbrokes

Portsmouth v Rochdale

The last of our April 13 League One betting tips is for Portsmouth v Rochdale. Portsmouth are finishing with a flurry this season and can’t be counted out in the fight for automatic promotion just yet. They won last weekend to take their tally to four victories on the bounce and that put them within two points of Barnsley in second. There’s now no reason why Pompey can’t continue their good work and grab a silver medal, avoiding the unpredictability that comes with playing play-off football. Back the home win this weekend at 4/7 (Bet365), a bet that will work best in your accumulators, helping to boost the returns. Pompey rallied to beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 away from home last Saturday, achieved thanks to goals from Lowe and a Pitman double. A nervy finish, but the right team won and it’s narrow victories that push sides into the prize places.

Everything to Play For

Rochdale have plenty to play for themselves, but they are stuck at the other end of the table, fighting for their lives in League One. There could be two divisions between these opponents next season, if Portsmouth get their wish and go up, with Rochdale failing to fight their way out of the bottom four. They start the week with only Bradford beneath them in the charts but there’s just a point between themselves and Southend United in safety at the time of writing and that will give everyone in the away dressing room something to fight for. The points are vital for both camps, but who will go and win them? Rochdale lost their first game in four last weekend when falling to a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Sunderland. Bookies have the away day priced as 9/2 (Unibet) outsiders. Eye-catching, but it’s not enough for us and we don’t see them winning at Fratton Park.

Our Tip: Portsmouth to win – 4/7 at Bet365
