Mar 9 League One Betting Tips & Predictions

Coventry v Burton

The first of our Mar 9 League One betting tips is for Coventry v Barton. Friday night football from League One as Coventry target three points at the Ricoh Arena when matched with Burton. The Sky Blues are five points behind the promotion play-off places going into the week, but time is against them, making this a match they really should be winning if they are serious about bagging an extended season. They set-up on an unbeaten run and won last time out, beating Accrington Stanley 1-0 in a hard-fought match. Bookies have them as favourites to bank another maximum and the home win rates as a 7/5 shot at Coral. That’s worth having.

Top Half Finish at Best

Burton are stuck down in midtable and find themselves six points behind their hosts and 11 behind Doncaster in the play-offs. It looks like they have missed their chance to be involved in the prizes this season and will have to settle for a top-half finish at best. That will come as little surprise to fans who have watched them win only one of their last five, drawing three and losing one. Another share is a possibility at 11/5 (Bet365), the away win 2/1 across the board.

Our Tip: Coventry to win – 7/5 at Coral

AFC Wimbledon v Doncaster

AFC Wimbledon enjoyed the distraction of an extended run in the FA Cup this year but that did little to heal the wounds inflicted by a woeful League One campaign that has the club bottom of the charts and already nine points off safety. They aren’t relegated yet, of course, but are well on their way to inclusion in next season’s League Two fixture list and they only have themselves to blame. They will have to go down, rebuild and look to come back stronger. The Londoners have taken one point from the last six available and can’t be backed here, even at 13/5, top price with Bet365.

Fighting for Place

Doncaster has lost just one of their last five outings and that has helped push them into the top-six. They sit level on 55 points with Peterborough, so know nothing has been achieved just yet, but they are in the driving seat to hold their ground and give themselves a chance at promotion to the Championship. One team is fighting the drop, the other aiming to climb a rung of English football and that should show in the final result. Back Doncaster to claim the points at 11/10 with Bet365.

Our Tip: Doncaster to win – 11/10 at Bet365

Barnsley v Accrington

Barnsley have won three and drawn two of their last five and that has them second in the pile, two points better than Sunderland in third and five behind current pace-setters Luton Town. There’s a chance they could win the title if maintaining their recent form but holding their ground and claiming automatic promotion will be much more important to the club, avoiding the lottery of playoff football in the spring. The hosts won last time out and we’re backing them to do the same again at Coral’s 1/2. Worth a spot in your accumulators.

Freefalling

One point taken from the last nine available, defeat in each of their last two games has Accrington in freefall and they can be found sitting 15th in the division, four points better than the relegation zone. Stanley has performed well below expectations this season and they know it, but they must put that to the back of their minds for now and concentrate of beating the drop as a bottom-four finish would be disastrous for them. The pressure is on, but we can’t back Accrington for the win, even at Unibet’s 6/1, the draw 33/10 with the same firm. Stick with the locals in this one.

Our Tip: Barnsley to win – 1/2 at Coral

Plymouth v Luton

Plymouth prepares for this home match with confidence on side, having lost just one of their last five league starts but the spare did come last time out when going down to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light a week ago. They ended on the wrong side of a 2-0 result that day but look to have already done enough to ensure they avoid the dangers of relegation between now and the final tally. They now line-up against the league leaders and traders aren’t holding out much hope for the home win, offering backers a chunky 10/3 (Bet365), the draw 14/5 with the same firm.

Promotion

Luton has a five-point advantage over the chasing pack and is showing no signs of slowing down, winning four and drawing one of their last five. They look to have already secured automatic promotion to the Championship and the target is now to go up as champions. The Hatters beat Rochdale 2-0 last weekend and we can’t ignore that form. Add the away win to your predictions at a handy 5/6 with Coral. There’s enough in that to back big as a super single, but we’d prefer to add Luton to our Saturday multiples.

Our Tip: Luton to win – 5/6 at Coral

Charlton v Portsmouth

The last of our Mar 9 League One betting tips is for Charlton v Portsmouth. Charlton sits fifth in the table and is looking to hold their ground by making themselves difficult to beat. The Londoners have drawn three of their last four, winning the spare and that has them five points better than Peterborough in seventh. If they continue to pick-up points they will bag themselves a spot in the semi-finals of the play-offs where the race for points is abandoned for a shoot-out over two legs. The home win is 6/4 favourite at Unibet but we’ll follow the form and take the draw as a single at 23/10 with the same bookmaker.

A Leveler

Portsmouth is fourth in the list, five points off Barnsley and the top-two. What’s interesting about the visitor’s form, and backs up our prediction, is they have drawn four of their last five, winning the spare last time. This rates as a tricky trip and we’re sure connections would take another level finish if offered it before the whistle. The draw is standout bet on the trends but if you’d prefer to shoot for the value, we do think Pompey have been overpriced at 2/1, market best price with Bet365.

Our Tip: A Draw – 23/10 at Unibet
