Weekend Premier League Betting Tips 21/09

It’s time for our next round of Premier League betting tips. It’s now week six of the Premier League season and the first round following a Champions League and Europa League schedule; this makes things just that little more interesting.

Chelsea and Liverpool go in with maximum points, with The Blues just edging it on goal difference at the moment. However, there’s only one in it. Pre-season favourites Manchester City occupy third with a surprise package, Watford, nipping away at their heels in fourth.

At the other end of the rankings, we have Burnley holding the rest up, having lost each of their last four. They have Newcastle and Huddersfield for company down in the relegation zone. Then there’s West Ham rising to 16th on the back of that emphatic win over Everton last time.

10 matches are spread out over the course of Saturday and Sunday, with four in total shown live on either Sky Sports or BT Sport. Six go in the traditional Saturday 3.00pm slot, which is great news for accumulator backers. However, our team focus on those played out under the bright lights of the TV cameras.

Read on for our expert predictions on each, as well as our advice on who you should bet with to ensure you receive market best price.

Fulham – Watford

The first of our first Premier League betting tips is a London derby. We have The Cottagers hosting The Hornets in front of the Sky TV cameras from 12.30pm to get the ball rolling this weekend. Fulham starts 1-1-3, leaving them down in 15th.  However, they take plenty of heart from a recent win over Burnley and have claimed four points from the last nine available. The spare defeat in that trio came at the hands of Man City last time out and that’s easy enough to forgive.

Watford can be found holding their own at the other end of the table; they have shocked more than a few followers of English football’s top division so far. They dropped their 100% start to the season last time when losing to Man Utd at home. Having said that, they remain just three points off leaders Chelsea and will see this as a perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.

Give Hornets Benefit of the Doubt

When two evenly matched neighbours go head-to-head you can usually ignore the formbook. Fulham needs the points and will make themselves difficult to beat at home, while the jury is still out on Watford. They are an interesting bunch, but has it been a fast start or a sign of things to come?

We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and take the away win at 15/8 with Coral. That makes them second favourite and, on the bare stats, they really shouldn’t be. Both teams to score is a strong back-up if you’d rather avoid the match betting, William Hill’s 8/13 is worthy of a spot in your accumulators.

Brighton – Tottenham

Brighton fans have suffered a mixed bag of results in the first five weeks. However, we think they’ll have to get used to that with The Seagulls expected to be fighting for points in the bottom-10 this term. They have picked up a draw in each of their last two, ending 2-2 at home to Fulham before playing their part in another thrilling four-goal share away to Southampton last time. There’s certainly goals in this side and enough flair going forward to cause problems. Having said that, but they must tighten up at the back if they are to turn one point into three.

Some say Spurs are in crisis, but it’s the kind of crisis most sides in world football would accept. The Lillywhites suffered back-to-back defeats in the league, slipping to Watford and Liverpool before losing on the road vs Inter Milan on Tuesday. What’s interesting about that run is all three matches finished with a 2-1 full-time score. Pochettino’s band took the lead in Italy through Eriksen; however, a late fightback, Icardi on 85 and Vecino 92, turned the game on its head.

Grab the Value on Spurs

It has been an emotional week already for Spurs and the players know the pressure is building. It’s only two league defeats – they’re within three points of the top-four at this stage – so there’s no need for the knee-jerk reaction we have seen from some sections of the media.

There will be a few tired legs in the away dressing room, so expect the manager to change things up and give his fringe players a chance to impress. They’re expected to do just that. Tottenham is a confident pick to get back on track with a victory. 888Sport’s 3/4 is a cracking price and we say – grab it.

West Ham – Chelsea

Game one of a Super Sunday double-header and it’s another meeting of two sides from the capital. West Ham are toiling down around the relegation zone with a poor start showing four defeats and a win. They did grab the spare last week when upsetting the odds to beat Everton at Goodison Park.  But don’t think they are out of the woods just yet. A timely confidence booster, yes, but there’s still much work to be done in Stratford.

Chelsea was involved in Europa League business on Thursday night; that’s a distraction they can surely do without in their quest to wrestle back the Premier League title. They have made a stunning start under Sarri, passing each of their first five tests with flying colours. 14 goals scored and only four conceded has fans excited and the top-flight is a stronger place when Chelsea are firing on all cylinders.

Blues Rate as a Super Single

Despite heading east with a pristine record, Chelsea will get nothing on the cheap here. You can expect the locals and their fans to raise their game considerably in an attempt to burst the bubble of their opponents. Chelsea is favourites, but they’ll have to work for any positives that come their way on matchday.

Traders aren’t in a hurry to forgive The Hammers on the back of one good performance;  because of that,  there’s a chunky 11/2 available on a home win. Big, but not big enough for us to blindly snap at it. We’ll stick with the form side of the pair and take the away day at a handy 1/2 (888Sport). Sure to do a job in your Sunday multiples and it’s good enough to steam into as a super single.

Arsenal – Everton

It hasn’t been the storming start to life at the Emirates for new manager Unai Emery that Gunners fans had hoped for. They’ve returned nine points from the first 15 up for grabs and despite it being mid-September they are already six off the pace. Back-to-back defeats in the first two weeks had many fearing the worst, but the team found their feet and rallied back to fire off three wins on the bounce, including a battling 2-1 cheer away to Newcastle last time.

What can be said about Everton with five games in the books? To be polite to The Toffees, it looks like it’s going to be another season with very little to cheer about, especially against the bigger sides. They were rotten against West Ham, struggling to string passes together and looked devoid of pace. They were certainly punished with The Hammers scoring three, meaning Marco Silva’s under-fire troops have managed just one win so far.

We’ll Get Goals at Emirates Stadium

We’ve witnessed some fantastic games between these sides at the Emirates over the years and neutrals watching the play live on Sky Sports from 4.00pm will be hoping for another entertaining contest. Will they get it? We think so. There’s plenty of quality in the line-ups and it’s up to the players and coaching staff to stand up and deliver. We fancy goals in this one and over 2.5 appeals at 1/2 – top price when doing your betting at 888Sport. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t slip that into your weekend accas and enjoy the show.

Arsenal enjoys home advantage and the betting expects that to pay-off with the local win marked up as 1/2 favourite with Betfred. That’s one of the better prices available with most of the competition stuck around the 4/9 mark. Don’t be too quick to write off the draw – Everton have drawn three of five so far and two of their last trio, making the 7/2 (Coral) worth a second look. Both make a lot more sense than trusting your stake money to the underdogs at as big as 6/1.  A nice price, of course, but they are rank outsiders for good reason. Fancy a bit more? Try both teams to score in an Arsenal victory and you’ll land 7/4 through Betfred.
