England vs Australia 2nd ODI Cricket Betting Tips & Predictions

England and Australia play in their second ODI on Saturday 21st September, 2024 at Headingley as the hosts go for a win to even up the series 1-1.

The experts here at Betting Online have been looking back at the first match and offering their predictions and tips ahead of the second meeting.

1st ODI Recap

England 315 (49.4 overs): Duckett 95 (91), Jacks 62 (56) Labuschagne 3-39, Zampa 3-49

Australia 317-3 (44 overs): Head 154* (129), Labuschagne 77* (61) Bethell 1-20

After the hosts won the toss and opted to bat at Trent Bridge, they knew a big total was required to stop this Australian side.

It looked promising, and it was all set for a cracker as England made it to 213-2 with some superb batting on show from Ben Duckett and Will Jacks, but it all went downhill from there, resulting in a score of 315.

With a disappointing dismissal for Duckett, it turned into what seemed like catching practice for the Aussies on the boundaries. It became batting practice for Travis Head, who scored 154 not out.

Part-time spinner Marnus Labuschagne and Adam Zampa both secured three wickets apiece after strong performances, including Labuschagne’s 77 with the bat.

There were glimpses of some great things to come from this England ODI side, however, with the likes of Jacob Bethell getting his first international wicket and scoring 35 to take them over the 300 mark.

England

A few of the dismissals will dissapoint England batters and fans alike, but with five of their top seven having a strike rate of over 100, its a fresh start and off we go again in Leeds on Saturday.

Duckett started strong, and despite losing the early wicket of Phil Salt, Jacks came out raring to go and built a strong platform between the opening batter and himself at number three. He challenged Zampa’s superior bowling and unsettled the Aussie with short stuff.

Ultimately, it was the wicket of the captain Brook that began the crumble of England and saw a score below their average of 367 submitted.

Australia

Travis Head has been on form all year long, so it really came as no surprise that his form continued to a score of 154 not out.

The short boundaries and fast outfield of the Trent Bridge pitch cause a challenge for most, but not for Head, who has just the tools for these conditions and knows exactly when to utilise them.

Despite the experience and pace of the likes of Archer and Adil Rashid, no England bowlers could dismantle him. Alongside a score of 77 for Labuschagne, the two built quite the partnership.

Despite the wicket of the part-time bowler, Head continued and stood strong to secure the victory for Australia by seven wickets.
