Manchester United vs Liverpool: Premier League Predictions & Betting Tips
Manchester United vs Liverpool is one of the most hotly contested rivalries in world football,…
The 2024 Formula 1 season continues this weekend in the second of a doubleheader as the teams head to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix.
Last week at Zandvoort was the first race back after the summer break. McLaren’s Lando Norris won for the second time, with Max Verstappen second and Charles Leclerc third.
Ahead of the race on Sunday, we have taken a look at the latest predictions and betting tips for what should be an exciting weekend at the iconic Monza circuit.
One of the most highly anticipated race weekends on the calendar is Monza, the ‘Temple of Speed’ and home to the Tifosi. If anything is guaranteed at this race track, it is fast cars and the presence of Ferarri’s loyal fans who will create a sea of red for their drivers.
It will be Carlos Sainz final home grand prix for Ferrari ahead of a move to Williams Racing next season, making way for an incoming Lewis Hamilton. It has been five years since the Italian team last won at their home track in 2019, which saw Leclerc take the chequered flag. Could it be written in the stars this season for a fairytale ending to the Leclerc and Sainz era?
The home team are also reported to be bringing upgrades, hopeful of more success than earlier in the season at Barcelona, where their upgrades became downgrades. After months of learning and understanding these upgrades, the team is confident it will propel them forward.
A new face will also take to the track at Monza for the remainder of the season. After yet another huge crash, Williams decided to replace Logan Sargent with F2 driver Franco Copatino to partner Alex Albon.
Zandvoort did not disappoint. It was a weekend that saw lots of great, hard racing, no retirements, and a second-race win for Lando Norris. After failing to turn a pole position into a win in his F1 career, Norris silenced his critics and did just that.
As a result, the Driver’s Championship and Constructors Championship race has become wide open, with just nine races left to go of the season. There is now just a 70-point gap between Verstappen and Norris in the Driver’s Championship and a 30-point buffer between Red Bull and McLaren in the constructors.
Possibly the biggest surprise was Leclerc’s third-place podium finish, which was certainly better than Ferrari was hoping for after a disappointing performance throughout practice and qualifying. This result will be encouraging heading into the team’s home race.
It was also a disappointing weekend for Red Bull, who just did not have the pace in the car to challenge the likes of McLaren, represented by the 22.8-second lead the race was won by. Coming home, at his home race in second place, can Red Bull reassert their dominance at Monza?
The iconic Monza circuit is known for its speed. Often referred to as the Temple of Speed, it is where Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya set the fastest-ever Formula 1 lap in 2004. The track is full throttle for the drivers for 80% of the lap with the cars hitting their maximum speeds on the 1.1km start/finish straight.
The most wins at Monza by any one driver is five, first achieved by Michael Schumacher, a total currently tied with Sir Lewis Hamilton. In the last two races at the track, Red Bull has dominated, with Max Verstappen securing the win in both 2022 and 2023.
With it being Ferrari’s home race and Sainz final dance with the Tifosi, could it be a fairytale weekend for the team? Or will McLaren’s unstoppable pace and two excellent drivers continue their fantastic run of form? Below, we have provided our top Italian Grand Prix betting tips, courtesy of bet365.
