Republic of Ireland vs England: Nations League Betting Tips & Predictions

In what is a new era for the Irish too, new manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has some history with their opponents England. The Icelandic coach is who famously knocked the Three Lions out at Euro 2016, and arrives in Dublin on a mission to reverse his new team’s fortunes. His side have won just three of their last 13 matches, two of which came against Gibraltar. 

Hallgrimsson is without the injured Gavin Bazunu and Josh Cullen; however, the good news for fans is that Evan Ferguson has recovered in time to be called up. Callum Robinson, Alan Browne and Jayson Molumby have been recalled, while Kasey McAteer joins the squad after switching his international allegiance from England.

England 

The post-Gareth Southgate era gets underway against the Republic of Ireland, with interim boss Lee Carsley taking charge. This is the first time the Three Lions have been back together since the loss in the final of Euro 2024, and a slightly different-looking side has been selected. 

Under 21 internationals, Noni Madueke, Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes and Tino Livramento have been promoted to the senior squad. While Rico Lewis, Jack Grealish and Levi Colwill earned recalls, it is Adam Wharton, Kyle Walker, and James Maddison who have been left out. Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins and Phil Foden have all pulled out of the squad due to minor injuries.

These two opponents have met 17 times in their history, dating back to 1946. The overall record currently stands at six England wins, nine Draws, and two wins for the hosts. The sides last played each other in 2020 in a friendly, which saw the Three Lions win 3-0 and end a six-game run of draws.
