Wimbledon 2018 Women’s Final
The big day is upon us: The Wimbledon Women’s Final that sees two big hitters…
The 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff continues her defence of the title as she faces Elina Svitolina in the third round.
In what is set to be a thrilling contest, with both women having strong performances in the previous round, can Svitolina cause an upset and force an early exit for the reigning champion, or will Gauff show she is up for the fight after a disappointing run of form in recent tournaments?
Ranked number three in the tournament, Gauff started her US Open off with a bang, beating France’s Varvara Gracheva in straight sets, dropping just two games. The second round saw her up against veteran of the game Tatjana Maria, who poised a challenge until the second set, where the American dominated.
On the contrary, Svitolina had a tough start to her US Open, having to claw her way back from a set down. The Ukrainian managed an impressive comeback victory against Maria Lourdes Carle to face fellow Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina in round two. A much better game for the 29-year-old followed as she dominated and went on to win 6-1, 6-2.
Gauff and Svitolina have only faced each other twice in previous tournaments, and each has one win apiece. Their last meeting was at the start of the year in Auckland, where Gauff recorded an impressive comeback victory, with the game ending 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3. Both players are off the back of some disappointing results; however, it is the young American with a slightly better hardcourt record than her opponent.
The expert tipsters here at Betting Online are backing Coco Gauff to edge her way past the Ukrainian, given her stronger record at the tournament and on hardcourts overall.
