West Ham vs Bournemouth EFL Cup Predictions & Betting Tips

The second round of the Carabao Cup continues tonight as two Premier League sides go head-to-head. West Ham welcome Bournemouth to the London Stadium in a 7:45pm kick-off.

West Ham United

West Ham began their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a new manager, Julen Lopetegui, and the pressure is on following David Moyes’s achievements over the past few years. After losing their opening-day fixture at home to Aston Villa, the Hammers responded with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Competing in Europe the previous three seasons means that this is the first time the side has played in the second round in four years. Last season’s EFL Cup saw the London side progress to the quarter-final stage for the sixth time since 2011, where they were beaten by eventual winners Liverpool 5-1.

Bournemouth

The Cherries have had a not-bad but equally not-great start to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign. After drawing both of their first two matches at home and away, manager Andoni Iraola will be hopeful for a strong and successful EFL Cup campaign to boost their hopes this season.

Since becoming a Premier League side, Bournemouth have only lost once at this opening second-round stage. The previous two seasons have seen them exit at the fourth round to last year’s champions Liverpool, and finalists Newcastle the previous year.

Having met 16 times in their history, the Hammers have more victories over their opponents, having won six to Bournemouth’s five. The fixture has also resulted in five draws, including the most recent meetings between them in February and August 2024, where the results were both one apiece. Can Lopetegui and his West Ham side keep their great record in this competition and progress to the next round, or can Bournemouth stop them in their tracks to get on their way to progression past the fourth round stage?
