Cheltenham Festival Day Three Betting Tips & Predictions

It’s already been two days of exciting races – and hopefully money is being made. Here are our top Cheltenham Festival day three betting tips and predictions.

JLT Novice Chase

Thursday brings day three and the JLT Novices is a Grade 1 race over 2m 4f, offering punters the chance to get off to a winning start. Many major bookmakers run with special offers on the first and last race of each day so it’s worth checking the promotions page of our website to find what deals may be available to you before getting your cash down.

Defi Du Seuil

Defi Du Seuil was ante-post favourite with 11/4 available with most firms, including Bet365 and that should prove a popular pick with players. Philip Hobbs’ six-year-old gelding warmed up for this contest with a win around Sandown in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices Chase over the same trip, leaving runner-up Lostintranslation 3/4 of a length behind and we don’t see too much changing between then and now. The second that day is 3/1 at Ladbrokes to go one better, but we’re with Defi Du Seuil to hold his ground.

Our Tip: Defi Du Seuil to win – 11/4 at Bet365

Tertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle

A three-mile listed race, this isn’t one of the best of the week but it’s always extremely competitive and for that reason it remains a fans’ favourite. This year’s renewal promises to live up to expectations and there’s plenty in the field that should go close. Odds makers are struggling to part them and the current favourite is 6/1, which tells its own story.

Market Leader

Sire Du Berlais leads the market but there are others who make more appeal and we’d prefer to avoid backing the shortest price runner in this one. Instead, we’ll let our eyes drift further down the pecking order and take a lively outsider we believe has a chance of upsetting the odds. The runner for us will be A Toi Phil at 14/1, top price with 888Sport. He hasn’t won for a while but it well-bred, comes from a strong yard and boasts vital experience.

Our Tip: A Toi Phil to win – 14/1 at 888sport

Ryanair Chase

We’re back in Grade 1 company and the field for this year’s Ryanair Chase is headed by Footpad who sits as 7/2 favourite with Ladbrokes, placing him ahead of rival Monalee at 4/1 with the same firm. Willie Mullins’ seven-year-old gelding has won eight of 17 races to date, placing on another five occasions. He rhymed off five wins in-a-row, but his recent form isn’t nearly as impressive.

End of a Good Run

Footpad’s winning form ended when falling in the Poplar Square Chase at Naas in November when sent off 4/9 favourite in a race that was eventually won by Saint Calvados at 5/2. He was then second in the Sugar Paddy Chase at Leopardstown over 2m 1f in his last outing, held by Simply Ned and that makes taking him on a little easier. We’ll take an each-way play on Balko Des Flos at 14/1 (bet365) 1/4 the odds a place 1-2-3.

Our Tip: Balko Des Flos each-way – 14/1 at Bet365

Stayers Hurdle

Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh have dominated this race in recent times with the trainer sitting on four titles, the jockey on five, although Big Bucks accounts for most of them. Who will wrestle the crown worn by Penhill last year?

A Super Day for Supasundae

We can’t see past Supasundae as, if he goes, he looks a great piece of value at 8/1 at William Hill but be careful if following as there’s plenty of 5/1 around and we’re certain he’ll start much shorter, so act sharpish. The nine-year-old hasn’t finished outside of the top two in any of his last eight goes, a run stretching back to December 2017.

Our Tip: Supasundae – 8/1 at William Hill

Brown Advisory Plate Stakes

The Storyteller won this Grade 3 race last year for Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell when seeing off the challenge of Splash Of Ginge and King’s Odyssey in an exciting renewal. Will this year’s race match that and give us another one to remember? We certainly hope so and there’s a wide-open field at present with Janika the 7/1 favourite, just three points standing between the first three in the betting at the time of writing.

Bigger Prizes

We’re happy to shoot for the bigger prices again here and will be having our stake money down on Le Prezien at 20/1 with 888sport. That’s value and is a must-have price as many respected firms go 14/1 on the same bet. Paul Nicholls’ hope hasn’t made a habit of winning of late but was second in the Welsh Champion Hurdle late last year and his best will see him ask all the right questions.

Our Tip: Le Prezien – 20/1 at 888sport

Mares Novice Hurdle

One of our favourite races of the week and this one will keep punters guessing right up until the finish line, as it often does. Often one of the most memorable races of the week and we’d love more of the same on Thursday. Epatante is 6/4 favourite with most firms, including Bet365, but it’s always worth being a little bold when approaching this one.

A Hearty Rider

Queenohearts is the mare to side with in our opinion and followers will get their hands on 14/1, market best price at Coral. Trained by Stuart Edmonds, the six-year-old chestnut has won four of six, placing second on another occasion and she arrives seeking a hat-trick. Won at Haydock in a listed race and followed that with victory in a Grade 2 at Sandown last time. Those backing each-way will get 1/4 the odds 1-2-3.

Our Tip: Queenohearts – 14/1 at Coral

Kim Muir Challenge Cup

The final race of Thursday and we think we’ve found a favourite worth backing to close the show for another day. Another open race but bookies have pinned their hopes on Measureofmydreams who is 5/1 favourite with Coral and we believe they have called that one right.

A Dream Win

Gordon Elliott’s experienced sort was third in his comeback race at Fairyhouse last month and it was encouraging to see him perform so well against the expectations of many. It’ll take another massive improvement and he’ll need to be back somewhere near his best to see us bag a return, but Measureofmydreams looks worth our support and there’s no doubt those with their cash on will get a serious run for their money.

Our Tip: Measureofmydreams – 5/1 at Coral
